Dear visitor
In connection with the recent University reorganization, the Department changed its name from Department of Mathematical Sciences to Department of Mathematics.
Thus this URL (imf.au.dk) no longer fits our name (it matched the former name in Danish). All our pages and activities will be continued on other sites. Please update your bookmarks.
The University has decided that instead of just a single site per department, each department will now have at least three sites (separated into different audiences). In the future Department of Mathematics can be followed via:
In the period from 1 January 2001 – end of October 2004 133 candidates graduated in Mathematics, Mathematics-Economics and Statistics. For 23% of the them we do not have any information of their present employment. For the others the statistics are as follows:
| 38% | Private business community |
| 25% | Teaching |
| 20% | Ph.D. students |
| 8% | Research (excl. private business community) |
| 5% | Other public employment |
| 2% | Still under education |
| 2% | Unemployed |
The biggest part = 38% of the candidates was (at the time of the survey - Summer 2005) employed in the private sector. It is especially the candidates in Mathematics-Economics and Statistics that contributes to the large number; but also and surprisingly many candidates in (pure) Mathematics are employed in private companies. On faculty level it is only exceed by the number of candidates in Computer Science.
With 25% of the candidates the teaching sector – especially the upper secondary school – still takes the biggest part of the candidates.
As shown by the statistics the unemployment is very low among candidates from IMF calculated on candidates with a candidate "age" of about 2 years.
Further information on the first jobs after an MA can be seen here.
