Dear visitor
In connection with the recent University reorganization, the Department changed its name from Department of Mathematical Sciences to Department of Mathematics.
Thus this URL (imf.au.dk) no longer fits our name (it matched the former name in Danish). All our pages and activities will be continued on other sites. Please update your bookmarks.
The University has decided that instead of just a single site per department, each department will now have at least three sites (separated into different audiences). In the future Department of Mathematics can be followed via:
The Faculty of Science offers the following fields and the Department of Mathematics offers the following programme.
PhD-secretary Randi Mosegaard (referred to as RM below); office A2.17 (1530-217).
Foreign students who intend to apply for admission to GSST(Graduate School of Science and Technology), are kindly referred to the GSST (Graduate School of Science and Technology) homepage for further information.
Applications are submitted electronically with deadline 1 May 2012. AGSoS has four yearly deadlines for applications. Please notice changes may occur in the Open Calls .
For your Qualifying Exam, you have to fill in a registration form. This form must be submitted to the PhD committee no later than 4 weeks before submitting your progress report. You should go to the office of RM to receive and — after completing the registration form — to hand in the registration form (in Danish: “Indtegning til Kvalifikationseksamen - del A”).
Your supervisor will choose an external examiner from the Censorliste (body of external examiners) (in Danish only). Together with the external examiner and the student, he will determine the date for the exam — as well as the deadline for handing in the progress report. He will also choose an examiner (normally the supervisor and another lecturer working within the field of study of the examinee). The internal examiner is appointed by the PhD committee.
The Qualifying Exam should take place no earlier than 1 June/1 December, respectively, for students receiving a Part A grant (SU-klip: 2 SU-klip equals 1 month’s grant). Otherwise the student will lose one or more SU-klip. You must normally pass your Qualifying Exam before 10 June/10 December, respectively, and no later than 10 July/10 January, respectively.
For further details, please see the AGSoS Rules and regulations.
You must submit the following to RM:
You must fill in a form at RM's office allowing IMF to publish the above-mentioned electronically on the IMF homepage.
At the same time, your supervisor must hand in a Supervisor Statement concerning your PhD programme — in Danish and in English.
The supervisor must suggest two external members for the assessment committee — normally 1 from a Danish university and 1 from a foreign university — and the members must agree on a date for the defence. The PhD committee appoints the chairman of the assessment committee.
Note that a scholarship from the Faculty of Science will be terminated at the end of the month you submit your PhD dissertation.
Typically, your defence can take place no sooner than 2 months after the submission of your PhD dissertation. Still, the defence must take place no later than 3 months after the submission of your PhD dissertation.
